Classes

Our art classes are a form of expressive therapy that use the creative process of making art to improve a person’s physical, mental
and emotional wellbeing.  Here’s to Life Instructor, Sally, will introduce different drawing mediums to the class including acrylic paint,
watercolours, coloured pencils, chalk, pastels, graphite pencils and charcoal.

But art at Here’s to Life is not only about drawing and pictures.  Participants will also be exposed to other artistic activities such as clay
modelling and craftwork.  The classes are structured so that not only are they fun and everyone’s creative vibe is allowed to shine; but
they also help the and participants with fine motor skills, social skills like sharing, participation in a team, and learning to work with less
supervision. Each week brings a new project and with it a new and exciting challenge to express individual creativity.

Art with 🖤 classes may be eligible for NDIS funding on some but not all NDIS packages.

Ballet

Follow your heart and rekindle your childhood dreams with Ballet at Here’s to Life.  Our ballet class is open to everyone and is taught at a relaxed pace allowing participants to feel comfortable and supported, with a focus on inclusivity regardless of prior dance experience.

Ballet class will encompass barre work and centre work exercises and will also include centre combinations.  The class is set to classical music encouraging fluidity and artistic expression.  It will, over time, improve posture and joint mobility whilst challenging and enhancing memory and concentration.

Ballet Barre

Ballet Barre at Here’s to Life is the ‘barre’ only component of our regular ballet class.  You will work on the basic ballet exercises teaching you how to hold yourself tall, work your feet and legs, and gracefully move your arms whilst always having the support or ‘safety net’ of holding onto the ballet barre.

It is the barre that makes this class perfect for people who want to dance but fear falling from poor balance.  Balance will improve and strength and confidence are built with each class.

Buff Bones ®

Approximately two thirds of Australians – men and women combined – over the age of 50 have poor bone health; with 77% of those having osteopenia and 23% osteoporosis.  Often people fear an osteoporosis diagnosis and become too cautious or even afraid to exercise.  In most instances that is counterproductive.  An osteopenia/osteoporosis diagnosis is certainly not ideal, but it definitely does not exclude you from doing exercise.

At Here’s to Life we offer the Buff Bones ® program.  Buff Bones ® is a medically endorsed full body workout for bone strengthening and balance.  It integrates Pilates, strength training, functional movement, falls and fracture prevention and rehabilitative exercise to improve the health and longevity of the bones and joints; all taught in a safe and fully supervised environment.

Most importantly – it is a research-supported design safe for those with osteoporosis.   Our Buff Bones ® instructor can easily modify and adapt exercises to accommodate a varying level of ages and individual participant’s needs within the group class environment.

Dancercise

The Dancercise program is a dance and exercise class developed to promote health and wellbeing for members in our community living with a disability.  Participants of all ability levels, with or without support workers are welcome at the dancercise sessions.  Participants are well looked after in a safe and supportive environment with one instructor and several volunteers per session supervising all activities.

Participation in dancercise class will encourage self-expression through movement.  It offers an holistic workout with strength exercises and simple dance combinations improving gross motor skills and teamwork.  Different equipment with varying size, texture and sound is also used to promote sensory awareness.  However, dancercise is not only about movement – members also sing and play instruments during the class.  Laughter is encouraged.  And fun is a given!

Dancercise classes may be eligible for NDIS funding on some but not all NDIS packages.

Drumbeatz

The drumbeatz program is a drumming class designed specifically for members in our community living with a disability.  It focuses mainly on djembe drumming but also integrates other percussion instruments such as maracas and tambourines.  Whilst the sheer joy of making sound and rhythmic patterns is a wonderful experience; our participants also benefit from the grounding nature of drumming which can help with emotional regulation.  Drumming class offers improved upper body movement patterns, self-confidence, team bonding and a strong sense of belonging for our drumbeatz members.

Drumbeatz classes may be eligible for NDIS funding on some but not all NDIS packages.

Drumming

What better way to relieve stress than to bang your drum?  Not only do you get to make a great sound that resonates deeply within the soul, but you will be promoting mindfulness, easing anxiety and making a great social connection.  Drumming can truly be a therapeutic and uplifting experience.

The majority of the drumming work at Here’s to Life is with the Djembe drum with some work on various other percussion instruments to enhance the fullness of a song.

Jazz

Here’s to Life jazz classes are carefully created one-hour sessions designed for fun and fitness and cater to all levels from beginner to advanced.  Classes offer a variety of jazz styles including broadway, fosse, pop and modern and we do our best to instil the love and joy of dance in all our members.  Our music choices are ever-changing and uplifting, and are appropriate for the level of the class being taught.  Our instructors can easily modify and adapt steps/combinations/full routines to accommodate everyone.

Beginner Jazz is aimed at people living in the community with a disability who are independently mobile and have a reasonable level of cognitive function.  The combinations are choreographed to challenge but not dishearten participants.  The classes focus on fun and teamwork.  And above all else the class is about participation and inclusivity.

Performance Jazz is a regular jazz class with a bit more focus on creating entire dance routines that could potentially be used in a performance.  Although stagecraft and performance style is a much bigger focus in this class there is still plenty of fun and laughter.  Participants do not have to perform with/for Here’s to Life to attend this class.

Line Dancing

Line dancing is a fun and uplifting pastime.  It can improve cardiovascular fitness and muscle tone, reduce stress, relieve anxiety and depression by releasing feel good endorphins, boost cognitive function, is great for bone strengthening, and is suitable and adaptable to all ages and fitness levels.

Line dancing is a new inclusion at Here’s to Life (2026) and we offer two levels of classes.  The first being a beginner class which is suitable for anyone new to dancing and/or line dancing, and which is also a disabilities inclusive class (independent movers only).  The second a more advanced class suitable for anyone who has danced before or who is confident with choreography and combinations taught at a slightly higher level.

At the Here’s to Life classes you’ll be made to feel welcome, be encouraged to whoop it up and will find yourself laughing and smiling with sheer delight.  Cowboy boot and hats optional!

Lyrical

Lyrical dance is an expressive style that blends the beauty of ballet, and the flow of contemporary dance.  Generally using more slowly paced music than traditional jazz dancing, lyrical dance allows the body to move in a beautiful, graceful style which can promote an emotional and spiritual connection with the movement.  It’s pace and flow make it the perfect option for Senior’s.

It offers a wonderful way to do low impact exercise and stay active whilst improving posture, coordination and flexibility.  Lyrical is the ideal outlet to celebrate the art of storytelling through dance.  No prior dance experience is needed.

Pilates for Bone Health

Pilates for bone health is a Pilates class that features bone health components such as balance exercises to help with falls prevention, and some light weight work.  Pilates is a low impact exercise regime that can be adapted for fitness level, pathologies and injuries.  At Here’s to Life Pilates for Bone Health is a matwork class that at times may integrate small props such as bands and chi balls.

Singing

Singing at Here’s to Life is a relaxed yet exuberant class within a welcoming environment.  No previous singing experience is necessary and no audition is required.  The class is designed for participants of all skill levels to explore their voices without pressure or judgement.  The music choices are many and varied and include modern, pop, rock and musical theatre.

Classes are structured to build confidence, reduce stress and foster a love for singing and music.  Whilst the classes are fun-focused, participants will be led through fundamental techniques including vocal warm-ups, correct breathing, basic harmonies, pitch and posture.

Singing has been proven to release ‘feel-good’ endorphins and create stress release.  Add this to improved lung capacity and respiratory health, memory enhancement, improved cognitive function and the social connection from creating ‘a beautiful noise’ with like-minded people and you know that you are onto a winner!

Tap

Ask any tap dancer why they love tap and they will most likely tell you that they love the way they can make music with their feet.  People often think of tap dancing as a great stress reliever as you are able to stomp and stamp your way through the music.  This is in fact true – it’s also super-fun, great for bone strengthening, join mobility especially hip and ankle, cardiovascular fitness and memory and cognitive function.  What most people don’t realise is that tap dancing is actually quite nuanced and the joy in the style increases as you learn to add dynamics, softer tones and funky rhythms to the movements.

The Here’s to Life beginner tap class is for anyone who has never tap danced before or who danced when they were younger and want to reignite the love of tap. Tap technique and combinations are choreographed to challenge but not dishearten participants.  The classes focus on fun and teamwork.  And above all else the class is about participation and inclusivity.

Our tap fundamentals class is also a beginner class.  It focuses more on the basic technique and steps that are used universally around the world.  The class is taught using the ballet barres – this allows participants to feel safe with no need to worry about balance when first starting out.

Performance Tap is a regular tap class with a bit more focus on creating entire dance routines that could potentially be used in a performance.  Although stagecraft and performance style is a much bigger focus in this class there is still plenty of fun and laughter.  Participants do not have to perform with/for Here’s to Life to attend this class.
