The Sacred Music Institute of the Southwest (SMISW) offers programs designed to strengthen sacred music in
worship through education, training, and formation. Our goal is to support church musicians and leaders with
the skills and understanding needed to serve their communities with excellence.
One of our key initiatives is the Sacred Music Certificate Program, created for church music ministers of all Christian denominations. This program is designed to support musicians and leaders regardless of formal education, helping them grow confidently in both knowledge and practice.
The certificate program will include 6 to 8 courses that guide participants through essential musical and theological foundations for sacred music ministry.
This program is ideal for choir directors, conductors, church musicians, accompanists, cantors, vocal leaders, volunteers, and clergy supporting worship.
SMISW plans to offer the Sacred Music Certificate Program in a flexible format, including in-person training for Houston-area music ministers and virtual learning options for the greater Southwest region.
Alongside the certificate program, SMISW supports sacred music through workshops, training sessions, and outreach programs that strengthen unity, build confidence in church music leadership, and inspire congregational worship.
