Her story
Mary Jane Hayes was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up on Long Island. Her love for stories began early, alongside writing, music, drawing, painting, and the arts.
She studied at The College of William & Mary, earned her Master's degree in Education from Adelphi University, and studied Educational Administration at New York University. Her career has included work as a teacher, social worker, program developer, counselor, guest speaker, and author.
MJ's books often help children think about life's difficult issues in approachable ways: deafness, bullying, disability, friendship, healthy eating, and the uniqueness of each person.
