An Introduction to K9 Nose Work®
Pre‑requisite for Spot‑On Exploring
Your dog already knows how to sniff—this course teaches them the game of K9 Nose Work®. They’ll learn that searching for the scent of their favourite treat (the primary odour or toy) is a rewarding, self‑led experience. You’ll learn to recognise the subtle behavioural changes that show your dog is “on odour,” while building the foundation for all future searching.
Growing foundation skills in varied environments
Pre‑requisite for Spot‑On Exploring
Building on the fundamentals of Spot‑On Searching, this course introduces more complex problem‑solving and promotes greater independence. Multiple hides and scent puzzles challenge your dog’s focus, while you continue developing your observational skills and understanding of how odour moves in different spaces.
Introduction to target odour: Birch
Pre‑requisite for Spot‑On Advancing Odours
This course introduces your dog’s first non‑food target odour—Birch—by pairing it with the primary. Starting with simple searches, we gradually increase difficulty. By the end, most dogs are confidently searching for Birch with or without pairing, ready to start beginner‑level trialling. You’ll refine your reading of your dog’s alerts and cues throughout.
Extending foundations & problem‑solving with Anise and Clove
With a solid understanding of the game from Birch Beginnings, your dog will now learn two additional odours—Anise and Clove. By the end, your dog will be able to locate Birch, Anise, and Clove hides both when paired with primary and independently. We’ll continue to expand search complexity and challenge both dog and handler.
Ongoing training tailored to group needs & advanced problem‑solving
As your Nose Work® journey progresses, new challenges emerge—complex hides, higher trial levels, and the occasional setback. These ongoing sessions are designed to keep your team sharp, confident, and adaptable, addressing individual needs and supporting long‑term growth in a collaborative and encouraging setting.
